South Normanton Cycling Club (SNCC) was officially started in January 2015. The roots of the SNCC began 4 years before when half a dozen liked minded (some might say ‘slightly off kilter’) cyclists started meeting regularly on a Sunday morning at a time any sensible person would still be in bed.
Since that time numbers grew and Wednesday night rides and fast Friday’s were added to the calendar of organised rides.
In 2015 SNCC was started as a club and became officially affiliated with British Cycling, with a club kit and a club mascot/emblem of a mountain goat. In the first year of SNCC, we ended the year with over 70 members
SNCC welcome riders of any gender, age and ability. We often have 2 rides organised on Sunday mornings one more challenging which often features a route into the picturesque peak district. The other being of a more sedate pace with less hills to climb, this is ideal for newer riders. Café stops are always part of our Sunday rides. All of our rides start from ‘The Hawthorns’ pub in South Normanton. All the details on our rides can be found on our Facebook Page, they are usually posted a couple of days before the ride.
We pride ourselves on being a friendly and fun club, with participation in organised races, Sportives such as the Tour of the peak, Tour of Flanders & Etap Du Tour. We have members that compete in road and circuit races, such as Darley Moor and Mallory Park. We also have club members who take part in local time trials. Each summer we have an organised trip abroad and an annual awards night near to the end of the year.
